Houston is one of the great food cities of America, and great food cities produce food scraps at a scale most towns cannot imagine. When Kitchen2Compost opens nationally, Houston is an obvious early giant.

How it works in Houston

A business posts what it has: produce trim, coffee grounds, outdated fruit and vegetables, eggshells, the clean pre-consumer scraps every kitchen produces. Nearby collectors see the post, claim it, and pick it up during the window the business sets. The scraps become compost instead of landfill, and both sides get a receipt showing it happened.

Collectors are the gardeners, small farmers, worm growers, and community composters who can turn kitchen scraps into living soil. Claiming is free for collectors, always.

Where we expect early activity

Kitchens and composters around the Heights, Montrose, EaDo, Rice Village, Midtown, and the Memorial area are natural early matches, though posts can come from anywhere in the Houston area.

Gulf humidity keeps piles active nearly all year, so Houston composters can absorb volume that would overwhelm drier regions.
