Kitchen2Compost App Terms of Service

Version 2026-08-11. These are the same terms every account agrees to at signup inside the K2C app, shown here for reference. The app presents them in English and Spanish.

What this app is

Kitchen2Compost connects kitchens that have food scraps with nearby composters who want them. We provide the connection. The pickup itself is an arrangement between you and the other person.

Compliance and liability

Kitchen2Compost is a matchmaking platform that connects businesses with food scraps to collectors and farmers. K2C does not process, handle, transport, or take possession of any food scraps. Both parties are solely responsible for ensuring compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations regarding food scrap handling, animal feed use, composting, and waste diversion. This includes but is not limited to restrictions on animal-derived materials, heat-treatment requirements for certain animal feeds, facility licensing, and local diversion mandates. Users must independently verify that their food scraps and intended use comply with regulations in their jurisdiction. K2C assumes no liability for violations of food safety laws, animal feed regulations, or waste management requirements. By using this platform, you acknowledge that you understand and will comply with all applicable laws governing food scrap diversion in your area.

Your part

Post honestly, show up when you claim, and keep your account information accurate. Only post food scraps that are safe to compost: fruit and vegetable trimmings, coffee grounds, eggshells, and similar. No meat, dairy, oils, or anything hazardous. Bread is not accepted under our program rules because it attracts pests.

Safety

Meet and collect at your own judgment, the same care you would use with any neighborly exchange. If something feels wrong at a pickup, leave and use the Notes field or contact us.

Weights and impact numbers

Pounds, bags, and other impact figures are estimates based on what users enter. They are for encouragement and record keeping, not certified measurements.

Preview features

Anything labeled Preview is an early look and may change or reset.

Fair use

We can suspend accounts that post falsely, harass others, or misuse the service. Be the kind of neighbor this app is built for.

Changes

These terms may be updated as the app grows. Continued use after a change means you accept the update. Questions: use the contact form on the Kitchen2Compost website.

These terms apply to the public Kitchen2Compost website. The K2C app may include additional terms that apply to accounts, listings, claims, and other app activity.

What Kitchen2Compost does

K2C is a connection platform. It helps businesses offering approved scraps connect with collectors who may be able to use them. K2C does not itself haul, transport, store, process, or take custody of the scraps described in a listing.

User responsibility

Businesses and collectors are responsible for the accuracy of the information they provide, the condition and suitability of materials, pickup arrangements, and following applicable safety rules and laws. Only list or claim materials that are allowed by the K2C listing rules.

No guarantee of availability

Listings and collector availability can change. K2C does not guarantee that a listing will be claimed, that scraps will be available when requested, or that a particular pickup will be completed.

Pricing

Kitchen2Compost is free to use. Businesses post at no charge and collectors browse and claim at no charge. We do not collect payment information. If we ever add a paid feature it will be clearly labeled, and nothing will be charged without your say-so.

Learning center

Learning center content is general educational information about composting. It is not a substitute for professional, regulatory, legal, agricultural, food-safety, or veterinary advice.

Website content

The Kitchen2Compost name, branding, design, and original website content may not be copied or presented as another service without permission. Links to third-party services are provided for convenience and do not make those services part of K2C.
